I have a PS3 that crashed, so I took the hard drive that I installed out. I am now trying to get the pictures that I have saved on it onto another hard drive. I am having a problem of anything reading the hard drive. I have an external HDD case that I have the 500gb hard drive in now, and it is reading unallocated on the computer. Is there any way that I can get the computer to get my pictures, and music back? Please help!!!

That's odd, Mine didn't want to erase the hard drive. Are you going from an older style ps3 to one of the new slims as I haven't tried that? I did mine with two of the older fatter models. Unless attaching the drive to your PC did something to the drive??? If you have any friends or relatives that had the same model ps3 you had, you can try it in their system. I'm not sure what else you can try.
The PS3 uses a proprietary format that can't be read by PC's. Unless you can find some kind of utility that can read PS3 drives, you are out of luck. Currently, I don't know of any utilities that can do this.

If you purchase another PS3, you should be able to transfer the drive to it. Afterwards, you may want to move the pictures to an external USB drive since both the PS3 and PC's can read them. The external drive has to be formatted as FAT32.

I have a new PS3 with a totally new hard drive. Do you think I should be able to just hook up a external USB with the old hard drive and transfer everything onto the new hard drive? I wonder if there is a setting on the PS3 that I should have set to read the external USB hard drive?

You need to temporarily swap the internal hard drive with your old one and connect a FAT32 formatted external drive to one of the USB ports. You can then transfer the files from the internal to the external drive. When finished, swap out the internal drives again.

The PS3 only recognizes FAT32 formatted drives when attached externally via USB. Luckily PC's, Mac's, and most other computers and devices also can read/write to FAT32 formated drives, so you can move the pictures to your PC at that point.

Yeah, so just tried that and the PS3 wants to format the hard drive, which will erase all of the pics that I want to try to keep..I am beginning to wonder if I am going to be able to save these photos...
