Sound like a PSU issue?

I've had my build around 2 years now. It's got the following parts:

Corsair Builder Series 600W PSU
MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti Twin Frozr II 1GB
AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black Edition

For the past two weeks, I've been unable to launch certain games, or carry out some stress tests as the computer reboots. There is nothing in the error log other than an unexpected reboot.

I've checked my temperatures but they're fine.

The results for each individual task that I've tried are below:

FurMark Burn In Test - Computer reboots as soon as I click "Go".
OCCT - GPU test runs fine, PSU test casues immediate reboot.
Grand Theft Auto IV - PC Reboots whilst loading first mission.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - PC works just fine throughout game.
Heaven Benchmark - Causes reboot as soon as benchmark begins.

I've come to the conclusion that it's my PSU... why? See below:
1) The temperatures do not have time to reach high levels since most benchmarks cause reboot before they've even started.
2) I can still play games that use less resources.
3) The GPU passes the OCCT stress test, but the PSU stress test causes the reboot.

Am I right in thinking that it's my PSU?
Thanks

The PSU is definitely a quality one and is enough to power up your system, but it can turn bad as all tech things can..
As you have already investigated, you should maybe find a friend who has a similar working PSU and try it in your computer and see if it works?

I had to RMA the PSU just 3 months after I received it lol. This is the replacement.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone that has a PSU that I could borrow, I lack anyone that has such a hobby. I guess I'll just have to save up for a new one..

If it is the PSU that's faulty, would it be safe to carry on using under light load till I can afford a replacement? I.e. internet browsing and word processing?

The CX-600 contains inferior Samxon capacitors that do not like heat, and don't hold up. It does well when new, but does not last. A quality 500W-550W PSU should be enough for your system. I usually buy Seasonic PSUs myself, but I'd also take a Rosewill Capstone or an Antec Earthwatts or HCG.

[strike]I am with the above user about checking another power supply if you can.[/strike]

Furmarks is extremely hard on the video card and power supply as is the OCCT psu test(since it is the gpu test and cpu test together.).

So yes, it sure does sound like the power supply is having issues.

I had seem a user who had a similar issue because the power supply fan had become clogged with dust. It may be worth checking for that too.

I've just removed the top grill and vacuumed out everything so that it was clean as a whistle. No help I'm afraid.

I will do. Thanks.

But then when running the OCCT GPU stress test, it works fine, but when stressing the PSU, it fails...... Surely it'd be the other way around if it was the GPU playing up?

Thanks everyone for your replies!
