I have has my custom built pc for two days now (via pcspecialist.co.uk) and have a regular palit gtx 770 with 3 fans. I was just playing shogun 2 then for about 3 hours with all settings on max (msaa x4 and everything checked apart from distortion effects like heat gaze) with gpu-z running in the background. After I was done, I checked gpu-z and my temp was averaging at around 65-70c with the highest being 79c. The memory used was, at highest about 1200mb (out of 2gb) averaging around 860mb and the gpu usage/load was at highest 99% averaging at around 70-80%. Now that all seemed normal (bar the 99% usage/load?) but what got me worried is that the clock speed of my card is like 1080mhz at a boost, with is base clock speed being 1046or around that, yet it was averaging around 1120mhz with it's highest being around 1200mhz? Is something wrong? I also hve an i5 4670 @3.4ghz, asus h87m-e mobo, 650w corsair enthusiast tx series, and play at 1920 x 1080p

No, that's GPU Boost 2.0 kicking in. It OC's itself upto the temp limit you've set, or the driver manually set. It reaches that clock speed because your card is cool enough.

Feminist Nvidia card doesn't need you to tell it when to OC.

On a serious note do you have any oc software that might be running in the background?

nope, only thing ive installed which wernt already on the pc is abode flahsplayer, and gpu-z from techpower, i havnt changed any of the settings on gpu-z either. palit do a jetsteam version of this card which would seem to fit the clock speeds i recorded, but i know i didnt select that one, i selected the normal one as i was on a budget... as for the first reply, shouldt the boost 2.0 only overclock to 1080mhz( as the clock speed sstate 1046 base clock speeds, 1080mhz (boost)

Nah, it overclocks until it reaches that temperature. When it reaches the limit, it stops there. It's actually a very good technology. My 780 OC's around 1090, nvidia said boost is until 900+ something only.

this is what it says about my card on the palit website

Base Clock 1046MHz/Boost Clock 1085MHz < so what does the 1085 max speed, what does it apply for if boost 2.0 surpasses this by over 100mhz

Well if it really bothers you, you can return the card and complain that your GPU oc's more than 100mhz............................. omg

oh do you mean that your card starts to ovrclock above 1090 and boost let its go up by 900mhz, meaning the speed is like 1990 mhz? sorry i think i missread your previous post

No, I meant base clock is 863 then boost is 900mhz. But my GPU OCs up to 1007. Just read the log in my afterburner again, just for you. :)  I wouldn't complain even if my gpu would boost upto 1500mhz as long as it stays cool. 1500mhz is just an exaggeration, just saying coz you might misinterpret it again. lol

wait, i just checked a gtx 780s specs, im only new to all this but i thought higher clock speeds means a better/faster card, so how come my base and boost clock speeds are higher than yours (or am i totally wrong)

hahaha Same with an intel celeron running at 3.0 vs an i7 running at 3.0ghz. The i7 is faster. They have the same clock speed, but different architecture. Same concept with the GPUs. :)
