Hello,
I have a problem with my PCI card (8SMCC PCI). It is a stepper motor controller http://www.chem.ucla.edu/~craigim/pdfmanuals/manuals/8S...
http://www.altechna.com/product_details.php?id=129
In my computer with this motherboard Tyan Tempest i5000px s5380
http://www.tyan.com/archive/products/html/tempesti5000p...
when the card is inserted into one of the PCI-X slots, the computer does not start, when PCI card is taken out, computer starts normally. Do you have any idea what coul be the problem? Could the PCI card not be compatible with PCI-X slot? I will really appreciate any help.
Best regards,
Piotr

Your stepper motor controller card requires 5 V from the slot, but your motherboard's can only supply 3.3 V from the slot.

Can you find a version of the controller that takes 3.3 V? Either that or find a computer with a 5 V PCI-X slot. The controller board, according to the specs, is keyed to be universal, while the PCI-X slot is keyed for 3.3 V, according to the motherboard's specs.

This page has a diagram showing the keys about halfway down: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X

That are really bad news, I would really need this card to work. Do you know if there are any kind of adapters or something like this?
