So I went to sleep last night and my computer was fine. Woke up today and the fan attached to my heatsink/CPU is not spinning. I rebooted, didn't work. I checked in the BIOS and it says N/A for the fan speed. I shut it all down, removed the power plug from the fan to the motherboard, reseated it securely, started up the machine and it still won't spin.

About six months ago my fan began slowing down and making annoying noises so I replaced it with this fan, and I've had no issues with it until today. I built my machine about six years ago but it's still running strong.

Previously with lots of programs open my machine ran between 48 - 58 degrees. Now with just a browser open I'm sitting at 67.

I have an Asus P5E motherboard. The fan is an ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, CPU Cooler.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I will recommend changing the entire CPU cooler if changing a fan doesn't work. If you have the money to, then I would recommend an entirely new computer or changing the thermal paste? Its either the cooler is failing and/or the two fans were just defective.

Thanks for the reply. I'm likely going to just buy a new fan & heatsink, but I wanted to see if there was perhaps an option I hadn't thought of. At this point a new computer isn't an option for me. I believe the fan is just dead, but just in case there was something which I could do to bring it back to life, or change a setting to get it to work, I wanted to double check.
