asus 17.3-inch laptop vs custom built $900 desktop without periphials

I am going to buy a computer soon and am deciding on building my own desktop or buying an asus g750jw-db71 laptop. The desktop could be a better option but I need to do school work too so I may need to take my pc to other places.

I was just wondering what the performance difference would be between these two computers.

Here's my part list if I do build a desktop

  1. Big difference in games. That's a tier 5 vs a tier 10 GPU.

  4. yeah, for that kind of coin, why doesn't your desktop have an i7 processor?????
  5. So the gpus are different performances levels, what computer would be better
  6. My desktop is going to be cheaper because I have to add in all the periphials and I live in Australia so prices are higher here
  7. how about this based on an i5 instead? comes around $75 more

Where are you getting it from (link)?
  10. I think from tiger direct, they have it for $1399.99

  11. If you can suggest a better laptop for around the same price that would be most appreciable.

How are you going to bring the laptop from USA to AUS?
  13. Doesn't tiger direct ship to australia?

Do you know how much the shipping is?
  15. Well if the shipping is high what site do you recommend

If the shipping is around AUD $150. That means the laptop will cost you almost AUD $2000. What is your budget for a laptop?
  17. About $1400. I've tried having a look at other sites but I can't find one that has the asus rog g750jw for sale,
Do you know what website has these and has low shipping here

AUD exchange rate dropped against USD. Also, the 5% custom duty and 10% GST will cancel the cost benefit of buying overseas.
  19. Is there an australian site that I can buy these laptops from?
  20. Yes.

Does it have to be 17"? 15" is cheaper.
  21. Or how about this laptop, it's a bit more expensive but it's from a Australian site. It's an msi i7 15.6 inch laptop.

Not a bad choice. Another option is this one:

    http://shop.bestdeal4u.com.au/service/i/2523/n/05A+-+Metabox+W350ST+laptop+15+6+inch+GTX+765M.html

$1335 CPU: i7-4700MQ, RAM: 16GB, HDD: 750GB 7200rpm. And you add W8: $97. Total $1432. You get a faster GPU with this one.

Although the MSI laptop offers longer warranty so it's your decision to make.
  23. Thankyou, although I have never heard of Clevo before or meta box. I will look at some reviews.
  24. Or maybe an alienware 17" R5 if I can find it on ebay or gumtree for around $1200-$1400
  25. I found it on ebay, it's one of the new alienware 17 models
  26. If i do build a pc, will it out power the laptops like the msi ge60, asus g750jw and the sager np8250 s?

    Yes, by a significant amount.
  28. I think it might be worth buying overseas since the setup here in Australia is $1500 and the same setup from America is only $1000
