Reusing Parts after a lightning strike

So my friend's computer got hit by lightning, went through the ethernet cable. Insurance replaced all his stuff and now he is offering some of the stuff to salvage to me. MOBO and CPU and most likely dead. But if parts like the PSU, RAM, and Hard drive are still good is it safe to use them in a rebuild? I plan on buying an i5 3.4GHZ and GTX 660 for my build.

Solution
^ the only way I know is to do a build with the mobo and the CPU and see if it posts. Basic stuff, just PSU, mobo, CPU, one stick of RAM, graphics (integrated, if available). If is goes to BIOS, the mobo (and somewhat the CPU) is good. After that, to ensure the CPU is fully operational it needs to be stressed. I had a quad-core once where it could run perfectly on 2 cores, but when enabling all four it would crash all the time while stressed.
If they are still in working condition, they're perfectly safe to re-use. They either work, or not. Unfortunately, you won't know which is which until you actually put the parts to good use (test).
Can't strictly say the same about the HDD, though; if he had a virus on it (and it's still in working condition), you will "inherit" the infection, therefore in this scenario the component is in working condition, but unsafe to re-use. I would recommend erasing the HDD before re-using.

I have an old desktop that I plan on using to test parts like ram and HDD, is there any way you know of to test the MOBO and CPU?
