Whenever I try to play AC4, I get this error. I was able to play fine, but I had a problem, and I had to format my primary SSD, and had to re-install Windows 8.1. Now, after I re-installed my games, I am able to play my other games like COD Ghosts, BF4, exc. But, AC4 won't start. I already tried installing vcredist like I read on the internet, but it didn't help.

Solution
Hey there, the issue seems to be related to your .dlls that AC4 tries to use when running.

Try the following steps --

1. Replace these files - mfc100.dll, mfc100u.dll, msvcr100.dll, msvcp100.dll and msvcr100_clr0400.dll

They can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

Please save these files to any location on your PC;

2. Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode
3. Access C:\Windows\System32;
4. Locate the 5 files you have downloaded and extracted;
5. Next, copy all those files to C:\Windows\System32 replacing the current ones;
6. Reboot in Normal Mode

I had the exact problem while opening Sleeping Dogs. If AC4 used to work properly before, then download Microsoft C++ Redistributable 2010 package and install it. Now try opening the game. If that doesn't work, get vcredistx86 file from any other game you might be having and install it. The game should work now......

The other day I downloaded MSC++R 2010 package but couldn't install it. So I found a vcredistx86 file in GTA4 and i installed it, now Sleeping Dogs work just fine.

Thanks, but that didn't work either. I don't know what happened. AC4 was running perfectly, and then all of a sudden, it came out with that error. I re-installed windows twice, and it didn't help. I tried everything i've found on the internet... UGH this is so frustrating.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention something: The same thing happens when I try to install Origin. I get the same exact error, and on the Origin folder, the only thing in there is Origin.exe and OriginUninstall.exe. But, it doesn't happen when I try to play COD: Ghosts.
