GPU still giving me a hassle

Hey guys, so a few months ago I made a thread about a problem I was having with a GPU I received from a friend. It would hang at a BSOD right after POST. I had it tested on another rig and it worked, so I ruled it down to my power supply being poor as I was using a 400W psu. I upgraded to a Corsair CX750, which works wonders with my old gpu, but when I put in the new one it now hangs at POST while trying to detect "4th Master".

Original thread for specs and such:

I was reading through your original post and you stated that you got a BSOD on post. I'm surprised no one mentioned this but you can't BSOD on post, it's a windows only thing. Either you were experiencing another issue or you were able to load into windows. You need to clarify.

Another note, you should have done a full system strip down before purchasing a new psu. I don't advise any purchases until I have exhausted every option.

It would BSOD after post, not on post. I've got two SATA HDDs both work perfectly fine. It boots fine and works properly when I put in the old GPU. I also bought the new psu since its part of the things I'm upgrading slowly. I havent ruled out other incompatibility issues. I havent even been able to install drivers for the new card because I don't have onboard graphics and the computer wont let me instal drivers for a new card since they aren't compatible with the drivers used to update the old card.

Alrighty, so mousemonkey you may be right about a corrupt hard drive or failing hard drive or something. Using the old gpu it still froze detecting 4th master. Will just unplugging the HDD screw up my system at all? I just use it for storage, its detecting the one that has my OS on it.

Okay so I unplugged the drive and with the new gpu its now making it past post, but still not to the windows boot logo. Once again, the old gpu works like a charm. Also to clarify more, its a black screen not a blue screen, because yeah I know you can only get the blue screens with windows screwing up.

So guys my friend came over and helped me with it, even though he did the same things I did, it has been fixed. It now works wonderfully. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
