Hey guys, a really new member and im planning to build a gaming pc but im not going to use a ethernet cable because of inconvience and a messy look. So im going to get a wifi card with the best amount of connection speed as possible but im not sure if a longer antenna or the number of antenna will give the best connection speed possible. It would be a great help to me if you guys give me the answer and explain it simply. Thanks!

Solution
they are different things really. The length of the antenna affect the distance the signal can travel. The number of antenna on most cards is related to trying to put more data into the signal. So if you have enough signal bigger antenna do not make it any better or faster. The problem with the multiple antenna is it is dependent on ability to transmit multiple overlapping signals and being able to recover these signals. Lots of things including the signal level affect how effective this is. That said if you have good signal a device that runs this which is called MIMO can get more data (ie speed) though the connection. BUT if the router also does not have the same antenna configurations then it will not even attempt to use...

If you do have a cable connection available, by all means use it!

To get the most out of a high-end wireless card you must also have a router that will be compatible with all the high-end extras on that card...

My router and the desktop is going to be at least 5m away and the desktop will be in my room, would love to get a cable connection but it will be a real hassle. The walls are only few cm thick :/

User a pair of powerline adapters. It's like running an ethernet cable from A to B over your electrical wiring, and they can be had for about the same as a nice wireless card.

Wireless bandwidth doesn't really matter - it's still going to be 5x-10x faster than any residential internet connection you can get (unless you have Google Optik), but what does matter is latency and possible packet loss. I.e. some packets simply not reaching your router, leading to lag.

Save yourself the headache, and don't use wifi for gaming if you can help it.

im not really sure about the single-duplex thingy. well im using fibre broadband connection and even when theres 5 devices connected to it, it still loads really fast so im assuming its not a single-duplex

I've read some reviews about people in my country using powerline(im from Singapore). It doesnt transmit much connection and sometimes dont even work at all due to the very high voltage that kind of interrupt the connection(at least thats what i saw from the forum)
