So I recently put together my first gaming rig, and it seems to be solid, and I think I'm ready to start playing around with overclocking. I've done a little bit, but only with the auto adjustments available on the Asus ROG bios. I'm running a Haswell 4670k, and I've done the auto 4.2 and auto 4.4, and I can boot on both, however, 4.4 I can't get much further than the desktop before it kicks me out, and on 4.2 I can at least start a cpu burn, but it tends to be done after about 5-10 minutes.

My CPU temps never leave get much out of the 40s with stock speeds, and I barely hit the 60s when I start a burn at 4.2, so heat isn't the problem. I'm wondering if I may perhaps have better success with manual adjustments, I'm just not sure where to begin with playing around with all these numbers. I was able to get a moderate overclock on my GPU, with +100 on the core, and +200 on the memory, so I'm happy with that. Lastly, I'm already pushing out 12000 on 3dMark, so I'm wondering if it is even worth overclocking the cpu, since the gains from that would be minimal in terms of gaming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there!

So you may know that overclocking help tends to be hard to find. Probably because it's hard to find people with the same MOBO/CPU setup, which is the easiest way to get help. Luckily I found this for you- http://rog.asus.com/254052013/maximus-motherboards/recommended-settings-for-overclocking-maximus-vi-motherboards/ It's an overclocking guide for your specific MOBO, it will help you know how much power to put into the CPU and other nice settings.

Also, overclocking is a great feature, but in no means is it needed for gaming, if you have a nice GPU that you can overclock, that would be a better option, that way you can get the best out of gaming. I personally find overclocking helpful for everyday use of my PC, but for...

Hope this helps!
