Please post your entire system specs - include make and model of motherboard, psu, ram, etc. Also let us know if you are overclocking.

shut downs are generally due to overheating....use hwmonitor to keep an eye on temps.

install the cm 212 plus right away

what games are you playing? I understand it might overheat if you play crysis 3 on full ultra at 2540x1440p but you need to give abit more info :)

Download a program called speccy, then tell me what your cpu and gpu temperature is. It can monitor both cpu and gpu tempatures. http://www.piriform.com/speccy

I think siddharth... is on the right track. It sounds like an overheating issue.

Follow his suggestion and download hardware monitor (HERE) and check your temps on both the cpu and the gpu. Also, be sure your rig is clean (no dust bunnies) and has good airflow. You don't say what case and/or fans you have, but as a rule of thumb I generally start with 2 120mm fans as intake (front or front and top), and 1 120mm exhaust (rear). Since you have the 212, go ahead and install it. Be careful removing the stock cooler as it may try to pull your cpu out at the same time. I've found the easiest way is to run a quick stress test to heat up the cpu/heatsink, then shut off the rig, remove plug from wall, press start button to discharge caps and then gently twist the heatsink to loosen.

Completely clean the cpu with alcohol and then spread a THIN layer of TIM on cpu and install 212. Be sure to get it snugged down. Restart and check temps.

Also if you find out that you have a overheating problem, maybe install a few fans and crank them abit up in your bios menu

Please look at my prior post regarding "pre-heating" the stock heatsink.
