Will an Intel Haswell Pentium G3220 work with the R7 260X?

Hi everyone, I'm working on building a mini gaming pc with a budget of $400-500. I chose the GIGABYTE R7 260X because it seemed like the smallest size available, and after looking at all the other parts (motherboard, ram, hard drive, etc) the only cpu that fit my budget was the Haswell Pentium G3220. Will that bottleneck the 260X? Please help.

You should be fine with that setup.

May I suggest though that you instead get an AMD processor, when you are on a budget AMD is really good to go with especially for gaming, the Graphics card is good don't worry about that, but switching to AMD will help expand your budget for other parts, and when it comes to budget-performance, AMD wins.

Hope this helps!

OK thanks a lot, that really helps. I have another question, though. I wanted to use a mini itx board because I severely lack space, and from what I can see, the only amd mini itx boards are the APU series. I've heard about the "dual graphics" solution where the internal graphics and another card work together, but I don't want to do that. Would it be possible to just use the APU as a processor and still use the 260X?

Well, the duel GPU thing actually looks like a good thing, but if you really don't want it, I'm not sure if you can turn it off in bios or something, but here is a mobo that you can not use the duel GPU thing, I don't think it even has it. -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157464 A little pricey, but maybe you'll be able to fit it in your budget.

Hope this helps.

Also, what case are you using? That way I can check compatibility.

Wow! This board will work perfectly! Thanks Sevenater. Also, you asked about my case, I have one of those large Antec cases available, but I was also looking into attempting to build a cardboard box PC. I know it sounds ridiculous, but check out this link: http://www.sustainable-computer.com/

The reason is I'm planning on attempting to build my own Steam Game System for the living room for when SteamOS comes out. I was trying to keep costs down because one of my friends kept wanting me to turn it into a business (sound familiar) and sell it. Also, what APU should I use? Is there anything around the price of that Pentium I originally asked about?

Sounds like a good idea, I just asked what case because if it were bigger you could get a bigger MOBO, but it sounds like this is the best way. And that cardboard thing looks really cool! If you do build one I'd like to see it finished!

Glad I could help!

Looks fine. It's all up to you. But it checks out.
