I'm getting a new quiet PSU (after my XFX Core Edition PSU's fan was too loud!!). I've narrowed it down to these two.

Corsair RM 750:

OEM is not well known
Uses low grade Taiwanese capacitors
First PSU to fail Hardocp review from Corsair due to thermal issues
Efficiency not as high as others in its price range

Very quiet - almost silent
Fully modular
Gold rated PSU
5 year warranty

XFX Pro 750W Black Edition:
Many reported cases of coil whine

Rebranded Seasonic X 750W PSU (costs a third less)
Very quiet apparently (only seen one review)
High quality components throughout
Very efficient - near 90%, can be rated platinum but isn't for some reason
Fully modular
Gold rated PSU
5 year warranty

I'm edging towards XFX but the thing is I'm afraid of the coil whine issue since it seems to be predominant. I've not experienced any coil whine in the 2 PSUs I've already tried, so is this less likely to give me a problem?

Also: Is 750W enough to power an I5 4670k and R9 280x crossfire?

Solution
i would go for the xfx...but remember 750W is the bare minimum for r9 280X crossfire

you should be good with this:

I don't have another R9 280x at the moment, so paying that much extra would be a waste.

750W seems to be enough after reading around some more. The XFX can handle a maximum load of 920W (tested) and stay within normal operating conditions before shutting down.

I would say go for the XFX & if you have a coil whine issue (small percent) return it.

Corsair tweaked the RM 750 & 850 after Hardocp's review, but without a good review from a trusted
review site, I wouldn't risk it. It was several weeks ago I read the review & Corsair's modifications, but if memory
serves me correctly, Hardocp's review raised more concerns than Corsair's tweaking seemed to correct.

A bigger concern to me is I don't believe Hipro/Chicony(ko888 will correct me if I'm wrong) have yet to
demonstrate they can mfg above average PSU's, which is what the RM series (enthusiast) is supposed to be.

Solution
The other concern, that [H]ard|OCP had with the RM750 (also applies to the RM850), is the use of cheaper than expected Taicon and Ltec electrolytic capacitors on the PSU's secondary side filtering especially for an enthusiast class PSU. I would blame Corsair for this one since they have the final decision on what brand and quality caps Chicony should use. The 5 year warranty should cover any early failures of the caps if it does happen.

You can only hope that the next model iterations of the RM Series will fix all of these shortcomings.
