So, I have Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I went to the link on Java's website and it told me to download this. https://www.java.com/en/download/win8.jsp It downloads as 'chrome-install...exe' So I installed it, and it works fine in my browser (chrome), but then, I ran Minecraft, and it gave me the warning that I do not have a 64-bit version of Java. So I went to the 'All Java downloads' section and downloaded the 'Windows Offline (64-bit)' installer. After installing, Minecraft no longer gives me this warning, and when I go to programs, I see two versions of Java. 'Java 7 Update 45' and 'Java 7 Update 45 (64-bit)', does this mean I have to install Java twice to get a 64 bit version for programs and a separate version for my browser? This is what appeared on the program list.

Solution
the firs time you installed the 32bit version of java (since chrome and most other browsers are 32bit)

and later was the 64bit version....you don't need to worry about that. most of the people have both including me
