(if you need to know any computer specs feel free to ask)
Hi! I'm currently looking for a mechanical keyboard, but i don't know alot about them. I know about the different Cherry mx switches. I have heard that the blues are the noicy ones, but since i haven't actually heard one i am afraid that it will be too loud. I have heard that the Brown ones gives a cick when the button is registered. and the red is a bit of both, and is currently the one i am leading towards. I will be doing School work on it, gaming and browsing the net. I want multimedia keys, so i can change the sound in-game without having to exiting it. I also want macros. If i had the Choice i would like backlighting and i would pau a little extra for it, but it is not as important as the other Things. It has to use USB, and it would be nice with an extra usb port on the back of the keyboard that i could plug my mouse in to, but it isn't nessesary. The one i have seen that has the Things i want is the corsair Vengeance k95, but it is a bit expensive. If i come up With something more i will lett you know. Also, what is Your experiese With the differnet switches? do you find some of them to be too loud? Thanks in adwanse and if there is anything you need to know feel free to ask.

Hey,

If you want macros and multimedia keys along with full backlighting then the Logitech G710+ might be a good choice. But first some info on the various Cherry Mx keys:

Cherry Mx Blue:
These have an audible click and a tactile bump. These are preferred by many for typing but are also suitable for gaming. Do note that quickly double tapping with these may be a bit difficult as they have a different actuation and release point. These can also be pretty noisy.

Cherry Mx Brown:
This like the Mx Blue is also a tactile switch but does not have an audible click. It is considered by many to be the middle ground between a typing and a gaming switch.

Cherry Mx Red:
This is a linear switch and does not have a click or tactile feedback. So I would not really consider it to be "a bit of both." The reds are generally preferred by gamers, as many argue that the tactile click on Blues and Browns is not necessary. They are also a bit lighter, as in they have a lower actuation force.

Cherry Mx Black:
These like the reds are also a linear switch, however they have a slightly higher actuation force, and may be uncomfortable for some.

Overall my suggestion would be to go into a store and try them out first hand. If you cannot do that than you can order a sampling kit online, although those can still be a bit pricey. If you want a middle ground between gaming and typing I would recommend the Cherry Mx Browns, as they are still good for typing and don't have any double tapping issues when gaming. The Mx Reds don't give you any tactile feedback and it is easier to make mistakes with them while typing.

Do note that everyone has their own preference with keyboard switched, but if you cannot try them in person then I would suggest the Mx Browns.
The K95 is a nice board but it is huge and I don't think anyone needs that many macro keys, I would suggest the Logitech G710+ as it has Cherry Mx Browns (with O-rings to make the quieter when you bottom out) and it has macros along with full keyboard backlighting. If you just want a basic keyboard then I would suggest the Cooler Master Storm Quickfire Rapid, as it is a nice tenkeyless board, but it has not macros or back lighting. It is however a great value.

Whats your budget?

Hope this helps!

I find the the Cherry brown keys are nice, as they are still easy to type and game with, but they are near enough silent so you don't get a horrible "ka-Klunk" but the red keys are just as good and still feature a nice silent experience and the keys don't require as much force making them a killer for gaming! I find the "QPAD MK-50" using Cherry Red MX is a very nice budget keyboard pricing around £60 on average and is very solid and has a variety of features, I personally use the Cosair Vengeance k95 myself and it's a dream, but before I used the very one I just suggested and I still have it with me today as a backup!

Thanks for quick replies guys! fil1p, the Logitech g710+ looks great, but it is a bit expensive. I would have bben okay With the prce if it wern't for the extra cost of shipping. Ebay is an option, but because i live in norway where we have the letters Æ,Ø,Å, thay would probably not be included on the keyboard. I still need to try the different Cherry mx switches. My budget is around 130 dollars (80 pounds), but i still have to consider shipping.

Nyazzle, it's good that you have experience With the corsair Vengeance k95, and that you thinks the Cherry mx red switches functions very well for gaming and typing. I now have to choose between the red Cherry mx switches and the Brown, but they both sound great. The QPAD MK-50 won't be an option because it doesnt have macros, but thanks anyway. if there is anything more you guys have to say please let me know. thanks! :)

So i was just at a store to buy a New computer mouse (but they were out of Stock), and i got the abbility to try out the switches on the razer blackwidow ultimate 2013, which has blue Cherry mx switches. I didn't find the noice to be irritating at all, actually i found them very satisfying. Before i went to the store i actually watched a few reviews of the keyboard and it looks pretty cool, and im considering buying it. I know that a lot of People have said that blues arn't espesially good for gaming, but i am not the kind of person that tries to squeeze every drop of efficiency out of everything. Does any of you have any experience With the keyboard?

the blackwidow also doesn't have multiple profiles for the macros, and i wondered: is multiple profiles nessesary? i know that the g710+ have 3 different profiles for the macros. Will i still be able to have different keybinds for each game??? And another downside about the keyboard is that it's just as expensive

^^ Definitely the G710+. I love my Razer Deathadder gaming mouse, but from what I have heard their keyboard quality isn't as good as that of their mice. I would go with the G710+ as it has Brown switches with built in O-rings (quieter than normal), and the build quality is very good. If you want Mx Blue's then I would take a different keyboard.

Ok fil1p. Just wondering if you have any experience With the CM storm trigger? if so do you think it's a good keyboard? Do you think that the blue switches are to loud. would you recomend Browns or blues?

I don't have personal experience with the Trigger, however the Trigger, the K95 and the G710+ are good keyboards. They each have their unique features. The software included with the Trigger won't be as good as that of the G710+, and the G710+ has o-rings built in. Build wise they are all very good, and the Trigger gives you the option of different switches, so you can have it in Cherry Mx Blues.

What are the prices of all the keyboards you are considering in your country?

here are the prices (I won'tbe including the shipping):
The trigger: 156 dollars (didn't find any With Browns or blues so i probably won't choose that. Browns are the ones i think i am going to choose)
The k95: 182 dollars
the g710: 145 dollars
the blackwidow ultimate: 162 dollars

I think i'm going to og With the Logitech. Just hope thay aren't to quiet, and that they will still have a satisfying feeling to them.
how is the Keyboards software?

At those prices I would definitely go with the G710+ as it is not only the cheapest, but the software is pretty good, it has back lighting, that along with the good build quality. The O-rings should make it a bit quieter, but they will still have some noise to them. If you don't like the O-rings you can always remove them manually later.
