hey everyone, i am a first time builder and i have a bit of a paranoid question. today i received my amd fx 8320 in the mail and i wanted to check it out for any problems or damage from shipping. so i took it out of packaging and inspected. i grabbed it by the sides and did not touch anything, but i totally forgot to ground myself before hand, and i am not freaking out about it that i may have ruined it. any input guys maybe to ease my mind? i also inspected the stock fan that came with it,can that be damaged from static electricity at all also?

thanks for everything

Hey,

I wouldn't worry too much. As long as you didn't touch all the pins or rubbed your feet across a carpet before installing it you should be ok. Of course its best to ground yourself beforehand (I do) but I have seen many people not do so properly and everything still works out fine. CPU's can be rather sensitive though, so in the future be sure to properly ground yourself and not work on a carpet. The best thing to do now is to ground yourself and finish building the system. Its too late to worry :p

Hope this helps!

ESD wont' hurt the fan at all as long as its not sitting on top of the processor. The processor can be damaged by a shock but typically if you're holding it in your hand you can't shock it as its no more grounded than you are. I think you'll be fine its very unlikely you hurt anything, just be more careful when it comes time to install.
