what should i get a gpu or cpu

ok im a hard core pc gamer my gpu is a asus gtx 550 and my cpu is a amd phenom 9850 what would be better to get for a better gaming expiernce please nothing over 300 thanks for your time

That is a very old cpu. Immediate performance a gpu would help more, but it would be bottlenecked by that cpu.
So a new card and a new cpu later could be good.

cant remember how a phenom performs, you're gpu is ok but i'd get something better. Games tend to depend more on the GPU (depends on what you play though).

gte a 760 maybe? not sure how much bottleneck you'd get though

The amd phenom 9850 as a passmark score half that of a 965, so it would bottleneck hard. This 965 @4.11GHz is barely enough for a 760.

Have that motherboard, great quality, highly recommend. Great processor as well, easily OCd. Allows for upgrades later, more ram would be a good upgrade as well.

I would say wait a bit for amd's mantle. Amd claims that mantle will completely remove the term cpu "bottlenecking" from gaming. But their are no benchmarks to prove that, so my best advice would be to wait.

I would not get an APU if you can help it. The integrated graphics put load on the cpu, and a physical gpu offers better performance.

Asus M5A97, FX-6350, corsair vengeance 2x4 gb. That should be 300. Note: still needs a gpu. Using the 550 untill a later upgrade is viable.
