my motherboard is no longer good but my chip is.....i have a q9300 quad core and want to buy a new board. the old board is ddr2 but from what i read, the chip is also ddr3 compatible.....is that so and if so, what new inexpensive board should i use
First, just so you understand, if your OS is a venders OEM version of Windows... it is legally tied to the existing MB only. If you change MBs, you will be expected to buy a new Windows license. If you don't, when you reinstall the OS and try to activate it, you may not be able to get it activated*. Btw, you will probably HAVE to reinstall the OS because the existing Windows installation's Registry will expect to see the old MB's components when it starts up. As a result it may crash.
