2k/4k resolution explanation

Can someone explain 2k/4x graphics? Looking at different skyrim mods, they speak of 2k and 4k textures. Would a 1080p monitor or television be able to display these textures? Can someone give me an overall explanation?

Texture resolution has nothing to do with display resolution. Those mods just replace game textures with modified ones that are much larger and a lot more detailed. You will be able to see them no matter what resolution you are playing the game at. Do beware they eat a lot of vram.
