Xeon E3 1230 v2 in ASUS Maximus IV Gene -Z Z68

I found a maximus IV Gene-z Z68 board for around $100, and if i went to intel, to save money id obviously buy the used board, and go with the xeon E3 1230 v2 which goes for about $230. ASUS does not show support for the xeons in almost all of their Z68 boards and not this one, but ones from the z77 shows support. I understand the difference between the xeon and i7 and stuff but even though it is a i7 would the lack of asus saying its support possibly not allow for the cpu to work in the board? Obviously having the bios up to date for IB cpus

That's the risk you take, yes. Some Z68 boards have been confirmed to support the E3-1230 v2, but that isn't to say that all of them will, so you're going to be making yourself into a guinea pig of sorts.

Some folks here say that chip will run in any Asus, MSI, ASRock, or Gigabyte board with the Z68 chipset. So if you want to take them at their word (OC.net folk usually know what they're talking about), go for it:
