Want a fresh install of windows 7

My computer was a pre-built one from bestbuy that came with Windows 7, however some time has passed and its time to do some cleaning up. I want to do a completely clean install of windows 7, now since it was pre-built it did not come with a win7 disk, however on the side of the case there is a product key. I was wondering if I could download windows7 and use the product key on the side to activate it, or if it will tell me that it is invalid, or already used. Thanks for the help :)

Yes, you can use the product key with a Windows 7 OEM ISO.

1. you could buy Win7 and have it genuine
2. you could download Win7 using torrent client but then it would be illegal action
3. you could assume that Win7 and other Microsoft solutions are crappy and start using Linux as it is free and gives you loads more than Windows OS

I would but play a lot of games, and I know that 98% of my game library will be rendered useless if I go to linux. God I hope Steam OS becomes a thing, and devs support it. If I could play Starcraft 2 on Steam OS I would be so happy... but until than I am kind of forced to stick with windows.

There are ways around it.... Depending on your machine you could virtualise your windows using VMplayer, benchmark it with any of your games and see if it works for you. Linux can also emulate Windows programs using software called Wine. If properly configured then it could work. Otherwise if you are real gamer I guess you have no choice and go for Windows.... So either buy or torrent it...The choice is yours...
