Question about and SSD

I have a quick question about my Samsung 840 pro ssd. It has all my usual software I use and the 2 games I mostly play and of course Windows 7 OS. How do I upgrade the firmware on my ssd to the newest version since it is the OS drive? Last time I tried to do it, it wouldn't let me update because it had the OS on it. Thanks!

I already tried the Samsung Magician software but when I try to update the firmware it basically won't do it because my SSD is the OS drive.

Did you tried the new version of Magician software ? If not then uninstall the previous one and install the latest one, then try to update firmware, see what happens. If that didn't help then contact the vendor for solution.

I would use the Samsung "Data Migration" software to backup the drive to another location, Secure Erase the drive, then install the new FW, then restore the backed up image with Data Migration.

or he could just download the FW ISO from www.samsung.com/samsungssd , burn it and make it a bootable cd/dvd, boot to that cd/dvd and just follow the FW update instructions.

Have you seen the FW update instructions? Will the update work on a C: drive with an OS installed on it?
