i had written the text but this damned forum deleted it and posted the title instead!

Actually the post was: i have issue with a new Radeon 7770 first installation. I used before the motherboard gpu a geforce 8200, after installing the Radeon if i connect the monitor to the vga adapter mounted on the videocard it receives no signal at all and remains black. Windows detected the Radeon though... so i don't know if the problem is that i have to do something to turn off the motherboard gpu or there is a defect in the Radeon or into the bundled adapter

I would say, plug the monitor into the motherboard display out, whether it be DVI, HDMI, or VGA. When you do that, unplug the graphics card, and let it boot on integrated graphics. When it boots, uninstall any and all graphics drivers on the system from AMD or nVidia, and then reboot. Boot again on the integrated graphics, and install the latest drivers from AMD. Then, turn off the computer, install the graphics card, and plug the monitor back into it. Then, boot it up, and it should work.

It seems to me that maybe you misundertood what i wrote... when i say that the monitor was black i didn't mean that the OS didn't boot. The OS (windows xp) boots normally and go to desktop but the monitor stay black, if i move the monitor cable from the Radeon port to the integrated video card the monitor works again

Exploitfinder i tried what you suggested, but it didn't work AT ALL. I frankly don't understand what's the sense of installing drivers before installing a device. And the monitor is ALWAYS black, i don't even visualize the bios start up, so i don't think is a OS issue.

What kind of connection are you using? I suggested installing drivers ahead of time because that eliminates the possibility of the default Windows video driver messing up. It very well could be the card. Have you tried it in another system?

no i don t have another system to try with. I bought the card on e-bay.
WQhat do you mean for connection?? The PCIe?? It s a 2.0 slot. The monitor uses a VGA cable, and it works obviously.

I tried with another adapter and it doesn t work the same. I think it s the videocard. Do you think it could be a problem of compatibility with the mothercard or the power supplier? The PSU should be ok, it got a 6 pins cable and it s enough powerful (500W). Just the fact that the videocard doesn't show even the bios screen at the start up makes me think the card is defective. The system has just 2 gb of ram, but i don't think that this would affect even the booting of the system..

Try uplugging the 6-pin PCIe power connector, and attempt to boot. The system may display a message telling you that no power connectors are plugged in, or something like that. If it says that, it likely isn't an issue with the card. If the screen still does not display anything, then we need to try something else. You can also try to boot the system with one stick of RAM installed at a time. It is unlikely that system RAM is the issue, but you never know. RAM problems can cause all sorts of silly.

Let me understand that: if the monitor is ALWAYS black like if it wasn't connected to anything, how can it show that message you suggest? I suppose i should boot with the monitor connected to the 7770 (that means 'nothing connected to it') and not the integrated gpu.

P.S. i have just 1 stick of ram

Yes, make sure the monitor is plugged into the graphics card when you are testing for the message. The screen may pick up a signal in that circumstance, because it will be displayed directly by the video card BIOS. Also, try a different connection, such as HDMI, or DVI if the monitor supports it. The VGA port on the card may be broken. And I highly suggest a RAM upgrade, 2x4GB is definitely the standard right now.

The monitor is only VGA (and i'm proud of it, i hate all these 'no deep black at all' fake Lcd monitors..) . About the ram: 2 gb are no more up to date, ok, but can this affect the functioning of the card at the point that no screen is visualized since the system boot ???
