I cannot access my SEAGATE HDD. When I try to open my HDD in Windows 8.1 it says " the file is corrupted or directory is unreadable".
Previously it was working perfect but for the following one day I have got this problem.what should I do now? I need all my files with out any corruption.
plz help me......

Solution
sounds like you have corrupted either the mbr (master boot record) or the partition tables.
if you repair the mbr you may get your data back, but if there not broken and you try to fix them you will corrupt the drive properly. which will result in the data needing to be recovered onto a seperate drive with something like recuva software. http://www.piriform.com/recuva which can take anywhere from a few hours to a day depending on the size of the drive.
repairing the partition tables would likely result in loss of software with the same results...
but which ever you decide on make sure you run chkdsk before hand as it can fix a lot of basic drive errors including fixing some drive access issues.
