According to one answer on the Nikon P520 user forums (http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/26397/COOLPIX-P520.html) the maximum length is 29 minutes. "The maximum movie recording time(maximum movie length for a single movie)is 4GB or 29 minutes, even when there is sufficient free space on the memory card." This is not uncommon with digital cameras (some Panasonics may be the exception) and DSLRs.

Due to import tariffs - a lot of camera manufacturers limit the length of time that can be recorded with normal cameras so that they are not taxed as video cameras at a higher import duty rate when imported. This is very common. Most regular photo cameras do this same thing.

Exactly. Almost all photo cameras that record video stop at files longer than 29 minutes. Like I said in my previous post, this is so they are not taxed at the video camera duty rates. It is frustrating, and if you are a DSLR videographer it can be quite a challenge for certain types of work.
