So far it's only happened when playing games, but my computer will randomly lock up and become completely unresponsive until i hard reboot it. If i just press the restart button on my computer then i get an error of my bios being unable to detect a boot drive (which is my SSD). If i completely power off and then on it becomes able to detect the SSD again and will work fine for about a day or until i play more intensive games, at which point it crashes again. This started happening about 5 or so days ago out of the blue. My bios are completely up to date, and there are no updates available for my SSD. I tried to look in the event viewer on Windows, but there are no entries at or around the time it occurs. As of yet it's only occurred with video games, and happened multiple times yesterday while attempting to play Serious Sam 3 multiplayer, and it happens regularly after a time of playing something like an MMO. It starts off with the program becoming unresponsive, but if i alt tab i can see Windows is still slightly responsive (for example if i hover over an icon on my task bar during it i will see the icon light up still) but after a few more seconds it will become completely locked up and unresponsive. I am completely clueless what to do. I recently replaced my CPU, but this issue did not happen right after replacing it.

Solution

SSD was in AHCI mode and it was in the 6GB port. Something i did notice is that in my bios storage settings the SATA port that my SSD is plugged into has an option called "SATA device type", and this was set to HDD rather than SSD. I'm not sure if this will make a difference and potentially fix the issue, but i'll update in a few days if it doesn't happen again, or update if the crashes continue.
