I have an HP 6830s laptop with 4gb of memory and Win7 home premium OS. I mostly run a graphics program called Chief Architect which has full rendering capability. Would increasing the memory to 8gb, the max on this machine, be worth doing? The video card is an ATI Radeon HD 3430 which cannot be upgraded. Thanks for accepting this inquiry.

assuming the program actually maxes out your 4gb then it would make a pretty massive difference if it doens't max you out then it won't really help it all. More memory only helps if you're using all the memory you currently have.

First check if you have 64 or 32 bit windows. If you have 64 bit, read the next part. If not, it won't make a difference as 32 bit cannot recognize more that 4 gigs of RAM

Go into task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) with your program on. If physical memory comes up at above 90%, then it would be worth it. it is is less than 80%, then it won't help much. Between 80% and 95%, it's you call. I, personally, would go for it.

Yes, you will. On normal usages - it actually exceeds 4GB. But I have not seen anyone exceed 5GB on memory usage. Unless you've opened a lot of browser tabs with youtube on each one.
