I'm having trouble getting past the black screen and most of the time my new rig won't start at all. There's no noise. It won't bios at all even when I press delete. Once I did get did get LED lights to go on and fans sounded loud but I never heard any beeps.

I've checked and double checked and tripled checked to see if all connections are plugged in. PSU is plugged in both 4 and 20 pins. Front panels cables are plugged in. So is my driver and sshd.

I decided to breadboard this with just mobo, cpu and psu (it passed the paper clip test) on top of cardboard in my chair. PSU, HSF went off very well so no problems. I also heard beeps because I had taken out the memory.

It beeped again when I entered the memory sticks incorrectly. That's the only time I ever heard it beep. It has the speaker thing installed next to where I have my front button cables are. (pwr button power off, hdd led, led -, led +)

I added monitor from my old computer to mobo then I put in my vid card. The card fan started to spin but montior said no vga display and it never went to bios. checked card. It doesn't seem bent and I don't see bent pins in the PCIe slot. I decided ok..maybe it will bios if i put it in the case when I'm done.

New monitor also works with my old comptuer. I'm using right now.

I added SSHD to this. I didn't need to add my dvd as I already knew it worked from when all the LED lights went on. I was able to open it up and put disk in it then. There were no more beeps but still black screen.

Oh every time, I put stuff in my bread box, I would turn off my psu then unplug it, well you get the routine.

I put everything back in and got the black screen when I turned it on again.

Ok, I tried to rearrange front button LED cables 3x to no avail.
I got a red light on the front of my case but nothing else. Not sure if I got the polarity right or not.

I was able to start stuff on my breadboard when I used a flat screw driver.
Do I have a bad mobo? I'm new to this.

Anyway, here are the specs:

Yes, the mobo is screwed on inside case.

I believe I said I had breadboarded this with only cpu, mobo and psu. Then I added memory one stick at a time. Perhaps I should have made it clear that I added one stick back at a time.

I will try it again with cpu and hsf and one stick again though I have my doubts that this will work. I'll let you know how that goes though this may be a few hours before I do this.

No. I screwed it in once I placed it in the computer case. I don't see how I can do that out of the case. It's a great way for me to lose screws/standoffs. I take it not all mobos are like that.

I thought I might have put screws in wrong holes but according to my manual, all the holes are to be filled up by standoffs.

There's no holes that aren't meant to screwed in on my mobo. Here's the url to it: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1155/P8B75-M/E7437_P8B75-M.pdf

Ok, I followed Alexoiu's suggestion.

I hooked up my old monitor (VGA) to my mobo and hooked up PSU to mobo and left one stick of memory in along with HSF and CPU. I was able to short it. HSF ran quite loud. Even though I had my finger on DELETE next to the end key, it never went to BIOS.

No beeps this time.

I ran the whole thing on my rubber mat and a longer power cord this time. I felt it would be safer this way.

I made sure keyboard was on before I started this up.

When I took stuff out of my case, I dropped my SSHD and I hope it's ok. :(

No sound that time. Yes, Mobo has that internal speaker. I have it installed next to my front panel switches.

I tried it again with no sticks and just CPU, Mobo, PSU. No beeps this time. Odd. I put my ear close to mobo to hear beeps. I could hear the HSF going fast and loud.

For the record, I can hear my old PC beep when I start it up though I admit it's much quieter than my new HSF.

I don't know. Socket was difficult to open and I think I ended up putting my fingers on some of the pins. I don't recall having any problems putting in CPU. Well, guess it's a little late to undo this. :p

Well mobo came and I got to do ever I'm sure everyone heard about that one. Just thought I'd bump this up.

When I breadboarded this with just psu cpu and no sticks, it never made a sound even though I stuck the speaker on the new mobo. The ok memory light did come on though. Two bad mobos in a row? I think not.

HFS was much quieter this time.

I will say this much for my newbie PC building experience. I learned how not to do it and what parts to order first. :p

Anyway, when I added sticks, it didn't make a sound either.

There were never any beeps. I was hoping I wouldn't have to order a new CPU. Its too late to RMA it. (long story but it has to do with banks and transporation problems)

When I took my PC to the living room, the lights came on but the screen stayed black even with my finger on delete for bios. I could hear fans too. I never heard any beeps. I was using the HDMI cable with this computer.

Since my old computer has HDMI ports, I thought I'd test HDMI cable on that computer. I found out it wouldn't work with my old computer.

I thought mm. Maybe it wouldn't work with the new one and the new one really is working.

I used a (monitor has several ports like HDMI and VGA) VGA cable and I came with the same result as before. Computer lit up and fans came on. I could turn it off by pressing the button. I couldn't do that with the old mobo.

sigh. First I ordered the wrong PSU, then I damage my mobo, drop my SSHD and now CPU may not be working properly.

What do you think, guys?

When starting the board with only CPU and CPU fan installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cables connected, is the CPU fan spinning? If yes and no beeps, then... yes, it might be a CPU issue.
From Intel:
"A boxed processor is sold in a factory sealed package that contains the processor, a fan-heatsink, product manual, and an Intel sticker. The product manual contains installation instructions and warranty terms and conditions. Be aware that Mobile and Enthusiast SKUs typically do not include a fan-heatsink. Each boxed processor carries a 3-year limited warranty."
