Hello everyone,
My specs are the following:
- Mobo: rs780m03g1-8ekrs2hm
- Currently have Phenom 9600 2.3ghz Quad Core
- 3 gb of ddr2 ram but will get upgraded to 4gb/8gb of the highest quality gaming ram for ddr2
- Corsair 600watt PSU
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 570
(I know its all very outdated but im just looking to add abit more gaming power to this piece)
My only question is the cpu I want to upgrade to are these choices:
- Phenom ii x4 945 3.0Ghz But 95 Watt which is just fine but I would like more power if possible http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103809
- Phenom ii x4 965 3.4Ghz But 125 Watt which I know not if the mobo will hold or not
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
- Phenom ii x4 970 3.5Ghz But 125 Watt which I know not if the mobo will hold or not http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103894
- Phenom ii x4 980 3.7Ghz But 125 Watt which I know not if the mobo will hold or not
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103934

Will My motherboard be able to work with a 125 watt CPU with am3 socket which ive been told will work on am2+ socket?
(Please I am not looking to upgrade to a new board I would just like to upgrade this board to the max)
Thank you, any help is appreciated.

I found this
Supports AMD® Socket AM2+ (940 pin), AMD Phenom™ (95 W), Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon 64, and Sempron™ processors

and this
Processor Support AMD Socket AM2 + , Phenom Quad-Core, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, Sempron. (Max 95W)

and this
Supports AMD® Socket AM2 (940 pin), AMD Phenom™ (95 W), Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon 64, and Sempron™ processors

so I guess you're stuck with a 95watt processor only.

Thank you but it doesnt help much because my motherboard isnt there. Plus Im asking here not going by what the motherboard specs say because alot of people are telling me that am3 will work just fine on am2+ socket and even if its 125watt im just trying to make sure with everyone out here.

That is the reason why i came to this forum.. To see if people have tried it. For example a Microwave tells you to not put your body by it because it reproduces too much radiation, but people still do it. Do you get what I mean lol?

no I don't.......... want some facts?.......... you cannot use anything bigger than 95watt processors. I copy and pasted from 3 different sites................ and even if you did swap the processor out for a new one, I doubt your machine will be any faster because the board is old and the hyper transport speed will be old will still be the same. no advancement.
