So, I bought an HP desktop a few years ago, and I've been slowly gutting it and face lifting it piece by piece. I slowly have been working on a budget gaming PC with these swap-outs. Here's my current setup:

Sapphire HD7850 1GB OC Edition -
Corsair GS500 PSU -
Coolermaster Hyper N-520 CPU cooler -
2x4GB Generic RAM -
MSI 880GM-E43 MOBO -
AMD Phenom II x4 630 Black Edition CPU (Stock Speed/No OC) -
Enermax Ostrog Mid-Tower Case

Within the next month or two I plan on replacing the MOBO, RAM and CPU with:

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 MOBO -
AMD FX-4130 Black Edition CPU -
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866 RAM -

I currently run (FPS Wise)

Batman: Arkham Origins (Max Settings, FXAA4) - 35FPS
Assassin's Creed IV (Maxed All Settings) - 31 FPS
Call of Duty: Black Ops (Maxed All Settings) - 60 FPS
Call of Duty: Black Ops II (High Settings) - 45-50 FPS
Call of Duty: Ghosts (Between High and Max) - 24-28 PS
WoW (Ultra Settings) - 40-65 FPS
Rift (High Settings) - 12 FPS in Cities / 30-50 FPS Free Roam/Questing

How much of an impact will these swaps have on my gaming? Keep in mind, I plan on a moderate OC on the 4130.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Check some benchmarks. It will depend on the game. You'll see improvements in pretty much all games, but substantial improvements in CPU-bound titles like MMOs and newer, better-threaded games. For the sake of future-resistance, the FX-6300 is a good idea over the FX-4130.

Dont get the 4130. its junk :p AMD said this themselves. the BEST CPU/Dollar as of now is the FX 6300. if you cannot afford this then get a FX 4300. if you cannot afford this then get a FM2+ motherboard and an athlon x4 750k/760k. those would be my suggestions. also drop the RAM to 1600Mhz speed if its cheaper. if the price is the same then go with the 1866 RAM

The 4130 was bought for me as a gift, but I could probably exchange it if needed.

If I do go with he FX-6300, what gains would I expect over the 4130?

I agree with Danzas' elaboration of Falcon's post. The FX-4130 is not worthwhile. If building AMD, a FX-6300 is a much better choice. If you have more to spend, I'd personally choose an Intel i5 over an AMD FX-8320 or FX-8350.
In many of those games, the GPU will make the biggest difference, but Rift is a MMO, and you will likely see a significant improvement there.

a few. the 6300 has 2 more cores than the 4130 and is on piledriver, not bulldozer. Bulldozer is considered by many a sidestep or a step backwards from the architecture you CPU is based on currently. Piledriver is much better.

It's a $9 difference between the FX-4130 and the FX-6300. I think I can shell out $10 lol.

Is the ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 a good board choice? It got really good reviews.

Keep in mind, I still plan on OC'ing any CPU I get.

I haven't opened the FX4130 since it's AM3+ and my MSI 880GM-E43 is only rated for Phenom II AM3.

Once I get the board, I can install the chip. So, seeing as my FX-4130 is just sitting there, I can exchange it for $10 bucks.

Definitely worthwhile. And, that board is good. You'll want an aftermarket cooler for overclocking. I use and recommend the Xigmatek Gaia over the more often parroted but slightly inferior Hyper212 EVO:

Unlike the Hyper212 EVO (ignore the URL; it IS the EVO they tested), the Gaia never throttled, although it wasn't always the coolest depending on the fan used. Both got awards, but the Gaia is usually cheaper as well, making it the better choice. The Gaia had its price jacked recently, so it's much closer now, but NZXT also has a 120mm tower cooler now that is notably cheaper. Even if that one is 1C-3C warmer, the difference isn't worth paying 25%-33% more.
