Hi all!

I'm completely new to this forum, but I've had the most frustrating day trying to re-install Windows 7 on a desktop computer.

First the motherboard died, so I replaced that, then the graphics card died, and that got replaced.
Now I've formatted the harddrive and have to re-install Windows.
I boot up the installation DVD, and it gets to extracting installation files, somewhere between 20% and 60%, and then it just shuts off without warning.

I've tried everything I can think of, I've check ALL cables, and I've changed everything I've dared to in the BIOS. I've tried at least 20-30 times, and it's the same every time. I'm completely lost for ideas :(

I'm not sure what other informations are needed to help, but I'll do my very best to answer any and all questions!

Thank you!

Motherboard: MSI G41M-P33 Combo
Intel Core 2Quad Q8300 2.5GHz 4MB S-775
Graphics card : Zotac Geforce GT610
Western Digital harddrive (forgot which one)

What kind of power supply? That's a very important component for both of the pieces of hardware that died.

You can try breedboarding the setup, by removing the motherboard, placing it on a piece of cardboard, and then connecting just the essential hardware, such as the PSU, hard drive, power switch, RAM, and graphics card.

I have tried with 1 stick of RAM :)

The powersupply is a Corsair TX650W..
I'll have to find some cardboard (shouldn't be difficult, it's christmas after all) and try again!

Okay, so first I tried removing the keyboard and mouse from ports directly on the motherboard, and that somehow made it work long enough for me to install Windows.. Then it shut down, every time I tried to run an update or install drivers, so I tried removing the CPU fan, giving it a tiny bit more cooling paste and then putting it back in place, and now it works..

I'm suspecting the CPU-fan might not have been attached properly, when we first moved the CPU from the old motherboard.

But it works now! Merry Christmas!
