From a performance point of view, I think they are really a wash. Or, so close to not be meaningful.
As to game compatibility, I have not heard that w8 has issues.
Personally, I do not like the tiles interface of w8.

I might suggest you look for a windows 7 upgrade package. It costs about the same as oem, but is considered as retail and can be transferred in the future.
