Up-Grade CPU, Sockets, and CPU Types

My processor is a: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 220 2.80GHz (Dual Core)

I wanted to upgrade it but I was given all the information about "Pins", Sockets, and Types.

All I need to know if I can upgrade it to double or quadruple the power it already has.

I'm not a Tech person but I can upgrade the hardware. Any useful help would be appreciated.

The Athlon II X2 220 is a socket AM3 CPU.

That means it is very possible you only have a socket AM3 motherboard which means it is not compatible with socket AM3+ CPUs like the recommendation for the FX-6300 CPU.

You need to provide the make and model of the motherboard that you have.

It's likely you may have a brand name prebuilt PC so if you can provide the name and model, then people can help you out.

Yeah you're right he would need to get a new motherboard. If you don't want to buy a new mobo, get an Athlon X4 750K. But bear in mind that this is a low end CPU and won't last many years...
