So my computer suddenly got super slow a few days ago. I assumed that it was my hard drive beginning to fail due to slow data transfer rates, programs taking minutes to open, and a very very slow boot up (about 5-8 minutes). I took my hard drive out of my newer computer and swapped it into my old computer to see how it performed. The computer booted right up in under a minute and operated just fine.

I need help diagnosing what's wrong with my system. Unfortunately, money isn't flowing in as I would like so I don't have lots of money to throw at my computer in hopes of fixing it. I'm hoping to pinpoint what's wrong and correct it as cheaply as possible. Are there programs I can download to see if there are problems with certain hardware?

Note: My temperatures are good, I've defragmented, cleaned out most of my hard drive, and ran antivirus (I'm clean).
