Will my External HDD work on my galaxy s4 via OTG cable.. i hav connected a usb mouse to the phone and it works fine but I'm skeptical about a hard drive, as it requires more power to turn ON etc... will it damage my phone , or will it corrupt my HDD if such a connection to the phone is done so? also in which format should the hard drive be? Ex-fat or NTFS... :-)

Generally the HDD won't spin up (or will try to spin up, then shut off) if there's not enough current available. It won't damage your phone.

I doubt it will supply enough current, though. It might, but I'm not sure.

Neither exFAT or NTFS will work (exFAT might, but it depends on if licensing fees were paid). You want FAT32 or EXT3/4.

I believe if the drive was externally powered, it would become available to save data - the SD card is no different in file format terms and handles data in the phone and on the PC when connected by USB. It's bit overkill though - why would you need to transfer more data than a flash drive or a 32Gb MicroSd card could absorb?

The SD card is almost alway FAT32.

If you were using an externally powered 3.5" drive that would be the case, but most drives are 2.5" ones powered by USB.

Lower cost per GB on the HDD...

It might work. It certainly won't damage anything if it doesn't.

However, Android generally doesn't have support for exFAT or NTFS, and the phone might not be able to supply enough current.
