Hey heys, newcomer here!

I have recently read that modern hard disk drives dislike any kind of vibrations.

So my answer is: is it possible to use a laptop with an HDD inside it without any negative consequences when moving in a car? I have to say that roads in Russia are very, very bad.

What may happen to such storage? Can I minimize impact?

Thank you for answering.

Solution
Whoever said that is wrong. HDDs have been getting better over time.

While it's not a good idea to give them very hard jolts, they are specced to survive several gees by memory. Car crash might do damage, but it would have to be very bad potholes to trash a laptop HDD.

Holding it on your lap is probably the best option; you're a cushion. Just don't let it hit anything solid.

Solution
For my laptop, it would depend on where in the car it was positioned. If riding on the lap of a passenger, I would think that there would not be any problem as the seat and the passenger would cushion the laptop. However, an operating laptop sitting on the center console or dashboard while driving down a bumpy road could easily damage the HDD due to vibrations transmitted to the laptop.
