I think it's overheating because it's incredibly hot when I touch it but I've opened the case and put a fan right next to it and still freezes and goes all pixaly. It also says that the driver has stopped working then recovered when I alt tabbed so, I tried different GPU drivers and updated to the latest version and that still didn't work. Help would be greatly appreciated

Here's a picture of what the screen looks like when it's pixalated

here are my specs ask me if you need more info:

when your case is open make sure that your fan is turning on your graphics card.. also get a can of air and blow out the dust in it if it is a reference design it might help to take the shroud off and give it a good cleaning. also consider lowering any overclock settings.

Have you done any temp testing? Download "CPU temp" and "GPU temp" and tell me what the numbers are after a couple minutes of gameplay, even if it's pixelated.

Also make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

I cleaned my computer and graphics card yesterday with an air can.

Yes my GPU drivers are up to date I also tested the beta drivers to see if there was an improvement to no avail.

here is the temp on all the devices, the values on the max tab are what they were just before and during the pixel crash Also this is while the computer is open and has a fan right next to it yet it still gets quite hot and crashes.

Well you shouldn't be overheating then. All of those temps are very normal under load. To be honest I don't really know. Your GPU never even cracked 70c...so it's not overheating. It does this for EVERY game?

Yes it does, it could be a ram problem from what one person has told me but I doubt since it since as I alt tab to get out of the pixelated screen it has a little window in the bottom left saying AMD Driver has stopped responding and has recovered, or something along the lines of that

Well if it says that every time, then it's likely a driver issue. Have you tried a slightly older driver?

And its only while in game right? Everything else it perfectly normal outside of game?

I think your GPU is running unstable. I need to know exactly what GPU you are using.

I'm using the SAPPHIRE HD 6970

It uses the Catalyst Control Center

Set your card to run at 880Mhz core clock and 1375Mhz memory clock. And then run a game.

Sorry in advance I don't really overclock or underclock my graphics card so I wouldn't know what I'm doing. So would I do this via BIOS and if so how? And would changing the graphics card to those settings overclock it cause I wouldn't know

Catalyst Control Center > Preferences > Advanced View

On the left pane, Performance > AMD OverDrive > Enable Graphics OverDrive

Put the first slider to 880Mhz, and second slider to 1375Mhz. Apply changes

sorry for late reply got busy. Okay I got in the catalyst control center but the sliders are already set to what you told me to set them too

sorry for late reply Christmas has been delaying me. I can set cpu to 800 but not memory clock to 1250 I'll attempt now and see if that changes anything.

Update: Yep still did the pixel thing

Only thing I can think of left is either the PSU or card turning bad.

yep every graphic intensive game

I have a 900 watt PSU that's decent right how would it be having trouble?

is it normal for a card to be like this after 2 years like even when I turn shadow warrior to low graphical settings it happens sometimes.

Its most probably a burnt nvidia chip.

can that be fixed or is it better just to replace the graphics card?

Did you ever changed the thermal paste? It may have leaked into places it should not. If yes, then thoroughly clean the graphics card with isopropyle alcohol and apply a small quantity of thermal paste in the center of the chip making sure it won't go outside of the chip.

I did a massive clean of the graphics card a month ago, because this problem was started then and I only started talking about it here. I opened it and saw no leakage only dust. So excuse my inexperience but would the thermal paste be visible at if it was leaking?

Only in case of extreme leaking you can see it, otherwise a thorough cleaning is the only solution. Small thermal paste build up can be as much noticeable as water in a sky blue container.

well there's no leakage from what I've seen. But for these past few days with the weather cooling done in Aus, I've been able to run games like shadow warrior capably in medium level graphics, but not ultra like the game defaults my graphics card too cause it should be able to handle it. So I'll probably get thermal paste for the chip as well but, what are some solutions to cool down the comp quite well. On hot days opening up the computer and putting a fan next to it seems to have done nothing what else could I do besides water cooling cause I don't think that'd do much to be honest.
