Hi, I just bought a brand new HP desktop with Windows 8.1 installed. However, there is a lot of blootware with the OS and the recovery disk would just add the blootware along with 8.1. So I would like to buy a retail version of Windows 8.1 and do a clean install. However, I was wondering if it would be able to be installed on my new computer because the BIOS has the HP OS key in it. Would that prevent the new retail version of Windows from being installed? Thanks,

Larry

If you get the same Windows 8.1 version ISO (Home, Pro, etc.) and use your OEM key, you should be able to do a clean install.
You might need to call Windows after activating your computer.

Hi, thanks, would the OEM key be on the retail version of the Windows 8.1? Please forgive me, I'm new at this, what does OEM stand for? Thanks, Larry
