I picked up a (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207014) which from what i've heard is a good psu. I am building a single card 770gtx build an i understand its plenty. Will this power supply be still suitable in around 3 years time for another single card build, as bad foresight previously meant i had to buy this one. Or is power consumption not climbing much further than it is now?

This is a hard question, depending on which theory you subscribe to the future tends to be unpredictable. As time goes on typical die sizes have gone down in size this can lead to less power consumption but on the other hand GPU now are expanding there memory from 2gb to say 3gb or more, resulting in a power consumption increase.

My personal opinion is to purchase any 850w that is gold + certified from a vendor that you trust and has a good warranty.

Hi - That exact model probably won't exist in a few years, but there will always be good quality 650's in the marketplace.
It's highly unlikey that a significant number of single GPU systems will require more than that.

As symsus said you don't even need 650 now. Even todays most power hungy(single) cards systems will run on a good 650.

Just to confirm the model i linked is a good quality one right?, i see that brand in paticular thrown about as recommend quite a bit so assumed it was.

If so then, i'm pretty convinced from what i'm hearing, considering people have been running this card, on 100w less and considering i for some reason decided on 550watts for an 8800gtx like 8 years ago; a 650 watt seems sufficient for now and a reasonable future.

Yes - The XFX(Seasonic OEM) you linked is a good quality unit, and I don't envision a scenario where a good 650 won't power most if not all single GPU systems.
