I currently run a AMD FX-6100 OC'd to 4.1GHz and its suits my needs just fine but I want to get a bit more out of my system. I'm already replacing my MSI Radeon HD 6670 gfx card with either a MSI Radeon HD 7790 or a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650 Ti, both 1 Gb cards. Depending which I decide on, I'll have about $150 to 200 left to spend. I would go ahead and get an i5 3570k but the price is way over what I have plus I'd have to get a new motherboard. I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 right now so I am limited on options. I was thinking of just getting an FX-6300 but I was wondering if getting a Phenom II would be better. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Don't upgrade your processor. You will be wasting your money and you won't notice a performance increase like you would by upgrading your graphics. You are holding yourself back by not getting a better card than the 650 Ti or 7790. Get an HD 7870 or above or a GTX 760 or above. Don't spend it on the processor.

I went from a Phenom II X6 1055T to an FX-8320 at 4.6 Ghz and the difference isn't that great in gaming. The real difference was going from a GTS 450 to an HD 7870.

Upgrade your GPU
