Discrete graphics card is not recognized or displaying to monitor

The AMD Radeon 7870 in my computer is not being recognized by my computer/displaying to my monitor yet when i plug the hdmi lead into the motherboard it works? Any solutions?

do you have both onboard and add in GPU's? How is your BIOS set?

Yes i have integrated and discrete gpu's. The BIOS is set to run from pci express (northbridge).

And your monitor cable is connected to the add in card?

Yes. It is showing a display but there is no device in the device manager.

The graphics card is now being recognized after installing the drivers off AMD's website rather than the driver disk
