Hi Everyone,

This is my first build, and since I’m not very knowledgeable about computers I’d really appreciate getting someone else’s opinion. I have a lot of questions so feel free to pick and choose with ones you answer if you are short on time.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2noOr

CPU : Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor $246.00
CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler $91.98
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard $144.98
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory $77.56
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Disk $305.98
GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card $309.99
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R Windowed ATX Mid Tower Case $78.50
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B BRONZE 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply $69.99
OS: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) $97.52
Optical Drive and Hard drive: I already have them
Total $1417.50

1. I want to keep the entire system around $1500 (not including tax, but including shipping). I live in Canada so the prices are slight more expensive.

2. I’ll be using it for gaming mostly (nothing that requires a powerful pc besides that). I’ll be using a 1920x1080p 120Hz single monitor set up and I want to play at good frame rates.

3. Is anything overkill for what my needs are and can you find a better way to allocate the money I’m willing to spend with the deals on the Canadian pcpartpicker? Do I have any obvious bottlenecks?

4. How many years will this be able to play games on ultra at high frame rates, and how long before I’ll likely fall below the minimum requirements for any games?

5. I know that the motherboard and psu may seem a little overboard, but I’m planning on adding a second gtx 770 and over clocking when I can no longer run games on ultra. Do you think it would be cheaper just to go with the bare minimum for supporting a single gtx 770 and then upgrading to a better gpu later? Are the components I have good for overclocking?

6. I’m not really sure how much cooling is necessary. Is the cooler I choose sufficient or even overkill? Do you think I should go with liquid cooling rather than air cooling if I get a second gtx 770?

7. Are all these parts compatible and will everything fit with enough room for good airflow?

8. Is the Zotec gpu a good one? I choose it because it was the cheapest but if it’s going to fail or if it is not as good as other models I’d be willing to choose something else.

Any other advice you can give me is more than welcome and thank you to everyone who helps me out.

1. There will be no bottlenecks, and nothing is overkill.
2. It will probably last for 2 years on ultra/high then high/medium after 3-4 years (on a single card. SLI you'll probably run on ultra for 4 years)
3. Everything is good for overclocking and will be good for SLI
4. Air cooling is fine for SLI and it is great for a single card
5. Everything will fit with good airflow
6. Zotac makes nice cards
Looks great to me!

What is the advantage of the Gigabyte board over my Asus one? Is it just because it is slightly cheaper?

Also, which gtx 770 that is clocked higher would you recommend?

Oh, I just have a personal bias towards Gigabyte, due to personal good experiences :p

the higher clocked card is the one I included in my list :)

I looked into the ram and gpu you suggested and unfortunately they are both out of stock. The gpu is actually available elsewhere but it is $383. Is their a better option than the one I had originally considering that?
