Hi all,

This great community here and been doing tons of research for my first build. Thanks to everyone in advance for any suggestions and assistance.

I'm planning to do photoshop cs6 editing, movie downloads & streaming to other devices in the house, basic home web browsing, office tasks and printing; sometimes all at the same time. After days of back and forth, today, I finally decided to go with an i7-4770k. Next thing I know it, I find a pretty good deal on craigslist for the i5-4670k ($175 like new). Should I jump on the deal for the i5 or stick to my decision and save for i7? The same guy is also throwing in WD Blue 1TB & Windows 8 factory disk & key for another $25; for cool $200 overall.

projected specs for build:
- i5-4670k or i7-4770k
- Asus Maximus VI Hero
- 16 GB Corsair Vengeance
- Asus GTX 660 Ti (still deciding)
- Samsung 256 GB SSD
- 1TB (x2)
- Fractal Design Define R4
- Corsair H100i (MAYBE)

Thanks for looking at my post.

agreed, your befit from hyperthreading(i7-4770k) Besides you won't have to upgrade again for a long time. Because, simply... there won't be anything much better. Like having bought a 2600K when it was new; do you upgrade to Haswell? Probably not.

I'd get Window 7, unless you've played with 8 and are ok with it.

Thanks for all the quick replies.

Considering my current pc is from 2006 (loooong overdue for an upgrade), I know this build is something I'll keep for a while; and because of that, I want to make sure I can do a bit of "future proofing" within budget. The hyperthreading is what steered me to the i7 and thanks to the replies, I'll stick with that route.

As for the os, I haven't played with Windows 8 yet, but when my wife opens her Christmas gift, I'll get some playtime on her new laptop to really decide if that's what I want for me.

Thanks again everyone.

Hey everyone,

I'm back. The seller is offering the i5-4670k for $100! He's going on a trip and needs spending money and is trying to desperately get rid of it today. Should I still hold off for the i7-4770k?

This crossed my mind, but I'm not sure if it would be easy to sell the cpu. If I go this route, I want zero risk for the hassle.

Well if so then just go with the i7-4770k, because the i5 is almost as good as the i7 for gaming but for video editing
the i7 is the way to go.

Thanks. I just decided to go this route a few hours ago. As wife is out Christmas shopping, I have all the time to truly research every component. 760 is the new plan. Now deciding between Asus and EVGA.
