I am trying to build a laptop with a budget of $1200 but am not sure how to go about it. I have built a desktop computer but am new to the laptop and notebook side of things. I am looking to build an all around good pc that will be used for work and gaming that gives me the most bang for my buck. I am looking for advice and build ideas from the community of laptop builders and all comments are helpful as this is my first laptop build and only my second pc build ever. Thank you in advance!

The ability to actually build you own laptop died sometime back in 2007 or 2008 which is the last time I saw places that actually allows you to buy laptop chassis whiteboxes; no CPU, no GPU, no nothing, just the chassis itself and the motherboard for you to install the other components.

Nowadays, the closest you can get to that is to customize a pre-built laptop. At XoticPC you can customize Asus, MSI, Lenovo and Sager laptops.

You can't build a laptop yourself. The hardware is just too expensive and not practical for self building. A replacement TFT LCD runs at minimum something like $500. You can always get something like a Sager NP series - it's what most of the major manufacturers like MSI and Falcon Northwest use: http://www.sagernotebook.com/
