USB drivers not working on Windows 7 reinstall

Hi there

My friend recently did a fresh install on his computer because it was having some problems, and now he's unable to get the USB hubs (basically anything and everything to do with the USB components) to work at all. They all have the "warning" symbol in device manager, and all attempts to install drivers for them don't work. I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or some other issue. THere's power there but the devices don't work (like the mouse lights up but doesn't move).

He has a HP Pavilion DV6-6c35dx

Did your friend download the drivers from HP - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5210863 ? If not, have him check the HP site as there may be other motherboard drivers he needs as well.

Have you tried to uninstall the USB ports (right clicking and clicking uninstall) and then restarting the computer? Sometimes after the ports are removed and you reboot Windows will find them and install the necessary drivers.

We tried this but we weren't sure which ones to remove. Do we only uninstall the root hubs or do we uninstall everything in that list?

We did that with the root hubs only, but again with no success

I'm assuming you removed the ones with the warning sign beside them. If you did and that didn't help then you could try removing them all. You won't be any worse off since none of them are working.

If I come up with another possible solution I will let you know. I will have to research the issue further. By the way, it's against forum rules to bump a post. That's a good way to get at the minimum a warning and possibly a temporary ban.
