Hi, I built a computer recently, and today I went to try to attach it to my monitor (with a HDMI to DVI port, DVI in the monitor HDMI in the graphics card, if thats useful.)

First a NO SIGNAL INPUT- ANALOG message came up, I pressed source on my screen, it switched to digital and nothing happened on the screen besides the power light flashing,. I posted to here, did some wire adjustment, readjusted some components, fixed other issues I hadn't previously noticed. But my monitor and or computer still hates me.

I tried connecting it to a TV screen, nothing worked but then again I had no idea what I was doing, so, I don't know if thats a great judge.

I need some help, what could be causing this, I'm going insane here.

Information that may be helpful: Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster E2420 MOBO: Asus M5 A97 LE R2.0 Graphics card: Asus Radeon R9 270X
Additionally the screen and computer are connected with a HDMI to DVI cable (not converter, cable).
I also have my windows 8 disk in my computers optical drive, nothing has installed.

Why not just go DVI to DVI? The monitor should have come with a dvi cable.

Its not a new monitor, I would have no idea where the old cable is. I'll try and look though.

No cable. Would that have really been the problem?

How did you connect to the TV? Cables can fail though, yes. It might help to pick up a new cable. They can be found online for a few dollars.

This cable was new, the HDMI-DVI, I connected to the TV with it, only the DVI in my GPU and the HDMI in the TV

Well it's the cable that's common to both cases so I'd certainly want to try a different cable.

Alright I'll try to pick up a new DVI-DVI cable

So I tried connecting my laptop to the monitor with the cable I have. It worked. I tried taking out the graphics card and reseating it, still nothing. What could this be?

OK, first re-seat the RAM and try again.

Second, if you have onboard graphics on your motherboard give that a try (with the card removed)

I tried a DVI cable. No luck. I also don't have onboard graphics as far as I can tell. I reseated the RAM and the GPU. still no luck.

Well it seems we're looking at a defective video card here. Can it be returned?

Are you sure? It's under warranty I'm sure because its brand new, but is there anything else that could be wrong?

Actually it is possible the PCIe slot is faulty, though that's somewhat uncommon. Try it in the other slot on the board. If that doesn't work, it's most likely the card.

I did try the other PCIe slot, no luck. However, I also put in an old video card, same problem. Could this be a MOBO problem? CPU? PSU?

If it's not GPU or RAM the highest probability is MOBO.

Its odd though, the MOBO light goes in, the fans run, the power switch works. All of those are connected to the MOBO.

Well a motherboard can fail in many ways, most of which aren't "being totally dead."

If you can somehow find another PC to test that card in (have a friend help you out?), that would seal the diagnosis.

I just don't know how this happened? All of the parts are brand spankin new,

Sometimes faulty parts ship from the factory. It's fairly uncommon but it happens.
