We can't really give you an answer because your question does not give us all the info. You need to open the case and check if the HD 7770 can even fit in the case. Each manufacturer will have different card sizes but expect the length to be around 21cm. Second, you need to know if the power supply will even be enough to support the card. Most prebuilt systems have a 300 watt power supply. This is dangerously low. you will need a power supply that's around 500w or higher(higher is better). I used to have a HP Pavillion p7-1549 and the computer your son has is more or less the same. The length will most likely not be a problem but the power supply definitely is. You will need to pick up a new one. Also think about who's going to change...
