Hey guys. I have 1x 1 Tb Western digital black and 1x Samsung 64gb SSD.
I would like to have this setup so the SSD is used for caching only. I tried to restore my computer to a restore point but it was corrupt and pc crashed and now I have to reinstall the OS again along with everything else.

However when I run the windows 7 OS install whilst the BIOS SATA is set to RAID, I can't see my HDD which I want to install the OS to. If I go into BIOS and set SATA to IDE and run the windows install, I can see the HDD. I know to setup SSD caching I must have BIOS set to RAID before you install windows.

I have been looking around and people do have fixes where they install with IDE and then change the registry but I'm not sure how reliable that is and if it fails I do not really want to have to buy another CD key.

Currently I have my HDD plugged into the sata 2 (6gb) port and once I have the OS loaded I will plug the SDD into sata 1 (6gb) and then run intel smart raid technology but i don't think where the HDD is plugged in matters.

If anyone has any idea to why the HDD is not showing up in the RAID windows install I will more then happily try your suggestion. I'm also not sure if I'm supposed to install a ISRT driver on the select storage screen to allow it to show up but if you have a driver link i will be glad to try it.

Thanks.

You probably need to have downloaded the raid preisntall driver for windows for your motherbd and then load it when windows install asks you where to install to using the Load Driver link

I downloaded what I thought was a pre install driver and ran it, nothing popped up after I loaded it. Also popped in the ASUS driver cd and did the same thing. Hard drive still didn't show up.

Really have no idea why it isn't working. I did notice that when the computer boots up after the bios picture it shows physically connected drives. Shows my WD 1tb and on the right it says disabled. Not sure if that means anything or changes the setup in anyway.

Okay, I'm a bit of an idiot. I had to press CTRL I at the physical devices screen and change it from disabled to remove. Thanks for the help though!
