Is There Any Way To Hook Up A Monitor and TV Simultaneously?

I've finally got my build together and my PC running, but now I'm trying to figure out what setup I want and how to do it. My plan is to use my PC like a console, and use my TV as a monitor. But I still want to a traditional monitor for general use. Is there any way to setup my PC so that I can game on my TV while using a typical monitor for normal use, without taxing my GPU? I certainly don't want a dual screen setup, I'm just looking for a way to switch between monitors easily and effectively.

Thanks.

yes in windows 7 at least, i right click my desktop and choose "screen resolutions", then from there it shows monitor 1 and monitor 2. I can have it as 1 as the main and 2 as extended, or vise versa. Or i can choose show display only on 1/2. Or i can set up an eyefinity display in Catalyst control manager (my GPU's program) and have both monitors act as one literally.

Could you expand on this a little? Do you mean that I would have it in a dual setup, but only select one to display?
